The Station

Q99.7 is Atlanta's Top 40 hit music station. More than just a frequency on the dial, Q99.7 is woven into the fabric of Atlanta's cultur, partnering with local staples like the Atlanta Hawks, championing causes from Paws Atlanta to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and showing up everywhere from rooftop concerts to sold-out festivals like Bitter Ball. The station's tagline says it all: "Atlanta's Hit Music. Never Miss a Beat."

The challenge was to give Q99.7 a visual identity that matched the energy it already brought to the city. Something bold enough for a billboard, flexible enough for an Instagram story, and distinctly Atlanta.

Atlanta's culture is a high-energy fusion of Southern hospitality, diverse creativity, and global influence. As a city often called the "Hollywood of the South," it's a powerhouse for music, film, and media. The rebrand needed to reflect that. Not just a logo swap, but a full identity system built around the idea that the community defines who we are.

I landed on three core values to anchor every design decision: Active. Current. Connected. Q99.7 is on top of everything pop in the city. New songs, upcoming shows, weekend events, and the city's culture. The brand had to feel the same way.

The Logo

The new Q99.7 wordmark is built around a bold, angular speech-bubble shape language, a nod to the station being a voice for Atlanta. The letterforms are chunky and geometric with sharp, forward-leaning cuts that give the whole mark a sense of momentum. "ATLANTA" sits underneath, grounding the identity in the city.

From the full wordmark, I pulled out a standalone "Q" logomark- a simple, recognizable icon that works as a brand stamp across any context, from app icons to bucket hats and so forth.

Color

Rather than locking Q99.7 into a single color, I developed a series of named gradient palettes that each tell a different story about Atlanta:

  • Atlanta Peach: Warm orange tones that nod to Georgia's identity, state fruit, and southern warmth.

  • Modern Flame: A purple-to-magenta gradient that captures the station's nightlife energy and modern edge.

  • Hot-lanta: A red-to-orange gradient with heat and urgency, inspired by the city's iconic (albeit corny) nickname.

  • Gas Station Slushy: A playful, unexpected palette referencing QT and RaceTrac slushies, leaning into Q99.7's fun, irreverent personality.

Motion, Digital & App

The identity system includes a full suite of digital assets: an iOS app icon, social media profile and banner lockups, a YouTube banner, and intro and outro animations for the station's digital platforms and videos.

One of my favorite pieces is the Q Mosaic — a pattern built from repeating Q logomarks that gradually reveals community photography within the negative space. It ties the geometric brand system back to the real people who make Q99.7 what it is, and works as everything from a social background to a full-screen landscape graphic.
